Understanding Synastry

We are all familiar with the planets or 'stars' that we recognize - the earth, sun and moon - and the huge influence they bring to bear. However, just because others are less visible does not mean that they exert any less influence. The positions of all the planets have a direct effect on our lives and how we behave. Communication, understanding, trust, honesty, attraction, common interests, money, children and so on - all key relationship considerations - feature as potential strengths or weaknesses within each of us according to the various planetary positions at our time of birth.

Since the success of any relationship is based on two people acting harmoniously, it is logical to look at our individual behavioral patterns and simply analyze the areas where there is accord. Synastry does just this by cross-referencing the two individual's Birth Charts, comparing certain points between them and looking for aspects and connections between their birth planets. It outlines where the planets of one chart would rest in the other chart and from these calculations it then creates a synastry (compatibility) report which highlights all the harmonious and conflicting areas.

The beauty of synastry is that it recognizes that there are parameters in each area. For example, communication between two people can range from good to bad. The question is just how good can the good get and equally how bad can the bad get? Moreover, is there a greater tendency overall towards either good or bad communication?

When a Birth Chart is compared with someone else's to produce a Compatibility Report, there will always be elements that are harmonious and others that are not. This can make the report findings seem quite contradictory. On the one hand it is telling us that we’re a match made in heaven and on the other hand that we’ll probably end up shooting each another. So which is it? Well, we need to recognize that we all have it in us to behave in both a positive and negative manner within any kind of relationship and therefore we have to make a conscious effort to work toward the positive. By doing so, we automatically align ourselves with the harmonious aspects of the report.    

Our scoring system recognizes those planetary positions which dictate the extent of the positives and negatives and therefore provides a realistic perspective on the potential ups and downs. In addition, some planetary positions are more important than others, therefore a weighting is attached to each finding within the report, so highlighting the key areas. Once every aspect has been considered and the values weighed up, a bar chart detailing the key relationship components (communication, trust etc.) is produced to illustrate exactly where the two individual's connections are strongest and weakest. This bar chart can be found in the Compatibility Report.

So, don't be put off if you read something negative or contradictory. You may well go on to find that overall there are far more powerful and numerous positives than negatives once the whole picture has been evaluated .. and it is the whole picture that holds the key.
