Romance can make the mind go mushy so make sure you use common sense. If a situation feels wrong, do something about it. Be true to yourself. If you're not comfortable with someone, politely tell them and agree to end the date amicably. However, if the discomfort you are feeling is to do with you, not them, then don’t run away from what could be a valuable lesson. Trust your judgment. Have a great time but don't let the lure of romance blind you to reality. From a practical perspective, don't divulge confidential or personal information such as your address or home phone number until you're really confident and comfortable. Don't be pressurized. If you're going to phone someone for the first time, block your phone number. Meet in a public place where people can see you and let a friend know where you are going. Keep an eye on your alcohol (or anything else) consumption and make sure nobody puts anything illegal in your drink. Make sure that whoever is driving is sober. If passion does take over, practice safe sex. Some people lie about their age and marital status so don't be afraid to ask questions. People with something to hide tend to react negatively/awkwardly when quizzed. Enjoy yourself but be safe!
